Lucy walks in the countryside to collect delicate seed heads and dead insects, she is interested in finding things that would in time decay into the ground, and uses them to create jewellery for men and women in silver and gold. Lucy uses the natural forms she finds on walks directly. “From my studio I combine materials and processes; these are led by the original form, the shape and fragility of it.” She says. The finished solid metal pieces are oxidized to enhance the delicate patterns and textures, this also introduces colour to the metal, if controlled, creating similar colours to those found on the original natural form. With Climate change affecting our wildlife, Lucys work could become a record for the future of the insects and plant life we have today. £1 from every website sale is donated to the BBC Wildlife Fund. Lucy has also been chosen by The Observer to join Courvoisier The Future 500 in 2009, this identifies her as the jeweller to watch in 2009. New work includes flies with ruby set eyes and diamond studded cockroaches.
